Programs

Family Enrichment Program: Weekends geared toward reuniting families.  Workshops target stresses unique to military families separated by deployments.  Weekend kicks off with social event & dinner.  Administered through PANG.

Survivor Networking Weekend: Families of Killed In Action (KIA) brought together to share and learn from each other.  Professional and spiritual provided through military chaplains and mental offices.  Weekend includes separate activities for children. Administered through PANG.

Comfort Bear Program:  Children and young siblings of KIAs are sent teddy bears dressed in uniform complete with soldier's name and dog tags.  Bears and uniforms provided through Build-A-Bear and program is administered through PANG.

Hero Kids Summer Camp:  One week summer camp for 100 children of Pennsylvania National Guard members. The 2008 USO Hero Kids camp will be June 15-20th in Lebanon, PA at Kenbrook Camp and Conference Center.  Registration begins April 1, 2008. Ages 7-12 accepted as campers( kids of deployed members have priority).   This camp is administered through PANG.

Liberty USO Helping Hand: Provides emergency assistance with heating, electricity and other utilities or bills associated with housing for families who experience a shortfall due to a deployment. Families will apply for support through military service agencies to assist USO in vetting applicants. An average of $250 per family in need is estimated.

Operation Communiqué: Provides phone cards to troops and their family members to keep them in touch with one another during separations. Phone cards will be provided through USO centers and military service agencies. Phone cards average $20 each.

Operation Ruby Slipper: Provides funds to enable a service or family member ineligible for official emergency travel support to attend important family events, such as funerals, weddings, births or reunions. Families will apply for support through military service agencies to assist USO in vetting applicants. An average of $350 per person is estimated.

Liberty Cares Food Vouchers: Provides grocery vouchers to assist families trying to make ends meet due to reduced circumstances while the reservist or Guardsman is activated. Working through military family service agencies, USO will provide vouchers worth $50.

Liberty Claus Program: Supports families with gift cards to make purchases during the holidays. Liberty USO also works in collaboration with merchants and malls to host military appreciation shopping dates, complete with deep discounts, childcare and wrapping services. Services and gift cards are provided on location on a first-come first served basis. Gift certificates estimated at $40 each.

Program Einstein: Provides vouchers and gift certificates for the purchase of back-to-school supplies for the children of service members. Working through military family service agencies, USO provides an opportunity for families to receive certificates for $25 each.

United Through Reading:  Deploying military choose book from USO library.  Videotape of parent reading to child is sent along with book to child.  Funded through World USO and Family Literacy Foundation.

Operation USO Care Package Program: Provides care packages to troops traveling overseas in support of Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom.  Funded through World USO.
