Staff Sgt. Barnhardt Participates at 2012 Winter Classic
The USO of Pennsylvania and Southern New Jersey (Liberty USO) was pleased to bring to the 2012 Winter Classic one of our region’s many returning service men and women from Iraq.
Staff Sgt. Deane Barnhardt of the United States Army just recently returned home from Iraq on December 21st where he was deployed for his third tour with Operation New Dawn Iraq for 6 months. His two previous tours included a year-long deployment to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba with Operation Enduring Freedom in 2005, as well as a 2009 deployment with Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Throughout his military career, Staff Sgt. Barnhardt has received the Army Achievement Medal, Army Commendation Medal and the Bronze Star, which is awarded for bravery or acts of merit during wartime.
Originating from Reading, Pennsylvania, Staff Sgt. Barnhardt joined the army at age 22 shortly after 911. After several years of service, he recruited his sister to join the army as well where she now currently serves.
