USO SUPPORTS THE 55th BRIGADE COMBAT TEAM

At Fort Indiantown Gap, volunteer Barbara Miller supports the Scranton-based 55th Heavy Brigade Combat Team of the Pennsylvania Army National Guard.

Liberty USO supported over 50,000 military and their families at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst (JB MDL) in 2010.

Staff Sgt. Barnhardt Participates at 2012 Winter Classic

The USO of Pennsylvania and Southern New Jersey (Liberty USO) was pleased to bring to the 2012 Winter Classic one of our region’s many returning service men and women from Iraq.

Staff Sgt. Deane Barnhardt of the United States Army just recently returned home from Iraq on December 21st where he was deployed for his third tour with Operation New Dawn Iraq for 6 months. His two previous tours included a year-long deployment to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba with Operation Enduring Freedom in 2005, as well as a 2009 deployment with Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Throughout his military career, Staff Sgt. Barnhardt has received the Army Achievement Medal, Army Commendation Medal and the Bronze Star, which is awarded for bravery or acts of merit during wartime.

Originating from Reading, Pennsylvania, Staff Sgt. Barnhardt joined the army at age 22 shortly after 911. After several years of service, he recruited his sister to join the army as well where she now currently serves.

UNITED THROUGH READING Takes Center Stage

Virtual Volunteer Alexis Lisa

Alexis Lisa explored Libertyuso.org after her husband enlisted in the Army (set to leave for boot camp in January), and wanting to help the USO in supporting our Military. She read about our United Through Reading (UTR) program and thus began her Collection Drive. With a drop off point at Blue Moon Books - Forked River, NJ and The Baptist Church which is located in Lacey, NJ her drive collected 80 books for UTR. She has also contacted Barneget School District to see about receiving proceeds from their Spring 2012 Scholastic Event.

Alexis has 2 small children and will be a primary source for collecting books in the Ocean Cty Area. She is assisted by an Air Force spouse at her church. Books were picked up at the local Walmart store in Forked River/Lacey.
